Conservatism's Surge A True Change To Believe In

Last night's Republican rout in Virginia was a statement on President Obama no matter what Press Secretary Robert Gibbs tells us. The excuse that Virginia has always voted for the out-of-power-party in off year elections doesn't change the fact that the margin of swing in their vote since 2008 is astounding.  The same voters that put Barack Obama in the White House went for Bob McDonnell-northern Virginia which is practically a White House lawn ornament declared its independence from the D.C.machine on Tuesday.

The success of Chris Christie's New Jersey gubernatorial campaign is another loud and clear proclamation. New Jersey citizens are sick and tired of the corruption and stratospheric taxes-their decision to place their state in the hands of a man who is bent on cleaning up the Garden State bodes well for Americans demanding the same of their politicians in Washington.

It wasn't a lack of motivation and drive in candidate Doug Hoffman that cost Republicans the election in NY-23. His loss to the Democrat challenger, Bill Owens, says more about the Republican party's candidate selection process in the state of New York and the party's current divide than about Hoffman's ability to win. The Republican Congressional Conference didn't do themselves any favors when it convinced Scuzzyface....um, er...Dede.... to endorse the Democrat challenger.

Hoffman may not be the most personable, charismatic man; but many of the residents of that district were sympathetic with his values and appreciative of his practical approach to the problems they face. Coming from out of nowhere a few short months ago to make as big a splash as he did on both the local and national scene is indicative of the strength of the grassroots movement he represents.

There is more to celebrate from Tuesday's off-year election results than the capturing of two important governors' races. State referendums dealing with two explosive political issues were on the ballots in Maine and Texas. Maine voters overturned the previous legislative decision allowing gay marriage. It was a major conservative victory in that the Democrat governor had thrown his whole weight behind the new gay marriage law and state liberals thought it was going to be a law written in stone.

Though I am a conservative on fiscal policy, the scope of government and constitutional law, I am not what you would term a social conservative. The matters of abortion and gay marriage are not the uppermost on my agenda. However, I am currently an advocate for each and every conservative play that reeks havoc on the liberal power base in Washington. If that appears rather Machevellian to some, then I sincerely apologize.

But if we aren't practical and willing to come together with our varying ideologies to keep from losing our Republic's timeless principles to a bunch of liberals for whom causes are mere playthings on the road to power than we will have more to worry about than abortion and gay marriage rights. Above all, we must preserve the authenticity of these United States, that nation brilliantly designed and bequeathed to us more than two hundred years ago.

Leave it to Texas to seize the day and keep blazing that trail to true liberty and independence. Voters passed Proposition 11, allowing for a state constitutional amendment which "limits the use of eminent domain for public use and specifically defines "public use" to specifically not include "the taking of private property for...transfer to a private entity for the purpose of economic development or enhancement of tax revenue purposes." The amendment won't totally solve the eminent domain issue-there are still loopholes to close but it is a great beginning in dealing with government overreach. Can I hear a collective hurrah?

The other forty-nine need to look, listen and learn. Texas leaders' utter fearlessness in the face of government threats and attempted domination is beyond admirable. Sure, they may have more guts than cattle but then it's a question of what is worse: their condition or the problem other states have, which is, they're all hat and NO cattle! Texans believe wholeheartedly in those founding principles Washington. We need to hear that same dedication to the great cause of the United States of America from her sister states!

Those who voted for Barack Obama in the last presidential election succombed to his charming mantra, "Change we can believe in".  We have not had any change we can believe in. But his administration has demanded time and again in the short span of one year that we Americans change WHAT we believe in! And what we believe in is liberty and justice for all, just like it says in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Time to ante up state legislators. The stakes are high and now, now is the time to go out on the limb and demand your states' inherent right to govern themselves with as little federal government interference as possible. The conservative movement is on the rise and states are the ones who should be leading the charge!

The Huddled Masses Are Leaning Left Of Liberty

Immigration is an issue that has long simmered on the back burner of the public conscience. Progressive liberals continue former President Bush's open border policy, scoffing at fences proposed by Conservatives. For their part, Conservatives demand that healthcare reform not include medical insurance for illegal aliens. The subject is a touchy one, as many of us are at arm's length from someone who has migrated to this country.

There are neighbors, coworkers, and extended family members whom we don't wish to offend. Most of these people have done things the 'right' way. They work and earn a decent income; they often support not only their families here with them, but family back in the home country. They are vocal in their respect for the Constitution and the rule of law that they pledged allegiance to when taking the citizenship oath.

However, there are those who come over here with an outrageous chip on their shoulder! They want all the rights and privileges of citizenship without having to pay any of the dues that us natural-born Americans accept as part of life. What is so troubling about their attitudes is the unspoken insistence that their rights trump those of native born Anglo-Americans. On last look, the Bill of Rights-our Bill of Rights-is still in affect! It protects our personal liberties. It promises to protect those of anyone else who strives to become a part of our citizenry with hard work, patience and respect.

Maybe these people should ask themselves, "What gives me the right to demand in one day what most Americans or legitimate immigrants have worked for years to obtain." No, if you want to have rights as a citizen, you have to earn them!! Fill out the necessary paperwork, get a job, learn English and wait patiently through the necessary time period that the government requires.

The increasingly tense environment of political correctness is leading to overreaction regarding the subject of immigration. It is much the same as the perception by some segments of the black community that opposition to President Obama spells racism. Far from creating a 'post-racial' world where the color of one's skin matters less than the content of his character(Dr. King's words), the election of a minority member to the White House with a cadre of leftist-leaning liberals has resulted in the most pubescent, ultrasensitivity imagined. People are accused of being racist and anti-cultural if they want to speak their native tongue of English or agree with a white man!

The huddled masses who came here to find a better way of life are aghast at the methods of a certain unorthodox sheriff in Arizona who didn't mess around when it came to his belief that illegal immigrants either do things the right way or risk punishment(he forced prisoners to wear pink jumpsuits and live in tents outside.). He had the nerve to actually do something about the illegal immigrant problem in Arizona when everyone in the government was dropping the ball!

Sheriff Joe Arapaio has now been told by the federal government that he cannot deal with his prisoners in this way and must house them in hotels. In the course of ferreting out illegal behaviors, the sheriff and his men come across immigrants who are, shall we say, not of the legal variety. The government wants to put these illegals in hotels? Why don't we go ahead and offer them room service and a spa treatment while we're at it! It's more of a vacation than the average working Joe in this country gets lately.

When Taos, N.M. hotel owner, Larry Whitten,  fired several employees who refused to anglicize their names at their boss's request, Hispanic protestors lined up in opposition to Whitten's legitimate right to conduct business in a way he considers most effective. The employees in question worked the switchboard and Whitten insists that because he has calls from customers from all over the U.S., they often deal with people who don't understand the employees' accents. By all accounts, Whitten is a fair boss; he hires Spanish-speaking individuals regularly, and treats and pays them well. But the practical aspects of the hotel owner's actions are overshadowed by that same overzealous, politically correct fever that is sweeping through progressive liberal groups in this nation like the California wildfires!

In a recent interview, CNN reporter Velez-Mitchell tried to paint this picture of Whitten: "If that's the only way they can feel better about themselves, by saying that in some way they are superior because of an accident of birth, then I really have compassion for them...You know, arrogance based on achievement, I can respect." That explains her attitude. After all, she's a big time media personality on...oh, that's right....last place CNN!

A gold star to her fellow reporter Rick Sanchez, who proceeded to take Velez-Mitchell to task for not giving Whitten a fair shake. Sanchez told her that his  own name was a long Hispanic one and that he had shortened it to make life easier because as he put it, "..I'm not going to let my being Latin get in the way of what is a respectful way of behaving when you're  in somebody else's country. The culture of the United States is not Latin..." That summation is clearly the heart of the matter.....and clearly hate speech if you're one of the left-leaning huddled masses.

It's no wonder Americans are getting tired of the whining and pity parties other cultures are holding for themselves. There are Mexican rights' groups out west who are radical in their bent; they want to "take back" the seven western states that they think are rightfully theirs. I'm sorry. Could someone please remind them what the Alamo was about? Wasn't it about Texas not wanting to be a part of Mexico?

The flames of contention over this supposed  'cultural racism' are being fanned by liberal groups, from La Raza to evangelical and Lutheran
organizations; they find any speech that objects to illegal immigration or that dares to disagree with someone of a different culture to be "hate speech". Such speech is usually the personal opinion of talk show hosts, political pundits and average Americans. On last look, someone's personal opinion is still guranteed under the First Amendment. How one conducts his place of private business, or what he says on media commentaries is a protection we Americans expect...that we demand as part of 'our' rights. La Raza has gone so far as to petition the FCC to crack down on this so-called hate speech.

Complicating the issue are efforts by U.S. and Mexican officials to crack down on the Mafia-esque drug cartels whose violence has now reached suburban cul-du-sacs in America. No doubt, this political correctness will soon spill over to the 'rights' of these monsters who kidnapp and murder our citizens as part of their criminal operations!

America welcomes any Mexican or other immigrant who comes here to start a better life-who works, pays his taxes(just like we do), deals with federal red tape(just like we do) learns English and behaves in a neighborly and helpful way with his "fellow Americans".
What we will not stand for is being told outright that they have more rights than we who were born here, that they will not follow the rules(as we are required to) and who exhibit hostility and conduct themselves in the manner of soldiers participating in an invasion!

Obama's Speech to Schoolchildren

I read the transcript of President Obama's speech to America's schoolchildren that was released today on the internet. There is absolutely nothing wrong with it. There's no indoctrination whatsoever-just the 'do good in school, listen to your parents, set goals, etc' that you expect when a president addresses our youth, as did Bush and Reagan.

The White House would have saved us all a lot of unnecessary grief and the nation a week of partisan bickering if they had just released this speech to the public on the day it was announced. Parents shouldn't have to whine and complain to our government to find out the details of words they plan on saying to our children. The government should have offered these details upfront.

We never would have gotten so worked up in the first place if they had not included that first after-speech assignment where kids were expected to write about how they could help their president. I'm still not happy with the fact that if we hadn't caused such a stir, that assignment might have remained. But I am relieved to see that the speech is as innocuous as they promised.

It looks as though it's going to be hard work to keep this administration forthwith and honest with its citizens but we have to continue. It's going to be about as much fun as constantly having to harp on your teenage son to clean his room.

A Matter Of Trust

President Obama and his White House can ignore the public outrage over the words of his Green Czar all they want. Just because you put your head under the pillow doesn't mean the monsters aren't real. The current administration has created this 'monster'(as they view it) of conservative backlash through their own doing. The words and actions of the Democrats in control of our government have whittled away at the trust we as Americans have in their ability to keep us safe, free and economically solvent.

With White House directions to monitor each other's emails, the President telling us all to 'sit down and shut up' and Pelosi and Reid calling townhall protestors "brown shirts" and "radicals", it's little wonder we are worried about the beliefs of certain czars and concerned that a President who would back those kinds of behaviors wants to 'address' our schoolchildren. We don't trust what he says to us; what makes him think we would trust for a millisecond what he would say to a nation of impressionable youngsters?

The Billion Dollar Picnic Basket

The Billion Dollar Picnic Basket

I think President Obama may have two more Cabinet members that he has not revealed to the nation- those two Hanna Barbara cartoon bears, Yogi and Boo Boo. Maybe they were in the group lobbying for the National Park system’s piece of the new stimulus since a portion-over one billion dollars- as been earmarked to upgrade their infrastructure.

A closer look at our new president’s whopping 1.7 trillion dollar stimulus package reveals so many pork barrel projects that it’s not hard to imagine that Warner Brothers sent Porky Pig as a representative to Congress. The Walton and Johnson radio show in Houston, Texas calls Obama's recovery plan the "steal from us" package.

This stimulus package is chock full of all the dreams and desires that liberals have longed for since the Republicans took office eight years ago. Democrats in Washington- from those in elected office, to lobbying groups to Congressional committees- seem to have their own interests represented in the new President‘s ‘economic recovery plan‘. It’s interesting to note that Craig Obey, the nephew of Dave Obey (D-Wi and the Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee) is a registered lobbyist for the National Parks System. Nepotism and a mile-long Democratic wish list are a dangerous combination.

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 is rumored to allow 300 billion for tax cuts for businesses and individuals and most of the rest for important infrastructure improvements-including billions for new highways and roads, many of which, according to the 2009 report from the American Society of Civil Engineers are seriously in need of repair; but, only 3% of the stimulus bill pertains to roads.

The amount of money going to improve infrastructures nationwide is also considerably less than the Democrats would have u believe. In reality, most of the stimulus money is going to projects that are near and dear to the hearts of the liberal Democratic constituency. As local Atlanta radio host, Neal Boortz said last week, future generations are going to be paying through the nose so that Congressional Democrats can send cash to their constituents.

Besides the terribly important matter of upgrading Yogi and Boo Boo’s picnic basket and giving Yellowstone Park a new coat of paint, there is an alarming sum of money set aside for such projects as sexually transmitted disease education(wisely, the allowance for providing condoms was dropped), the National Endowment of the Arts, after school snack programs, office furniture for the public health service and Amtrak. There is even an allotment for maintenance and new grass in Washington- it seems the National Mall needs resodding after the inauguration blowout($4 for every dollar spent on small business tax relief!)

Now, I am an avid supporter of the arts-I’ve been known to attend the theatre, give a few bucks to a creative project, and I believe in freedom of artistic expression, even if your art is really horrible! But I’m aghast at the idea of allocating billions to the NEA in such hard economic times as these. As for money to improve sex education, I believe the sex education already in place in schools along with the proper parental responsibility is probably more than enough.

The same goes for school snacks. I don’t think American school children are going to starve after school- we already have free breakfast and lunches. I really don't think providing every child with one apple in the afternoon is going to cost millions. Schools can cut expenses somewhere else to afford the apples.

Let’s worry more about stimulating free enterprise so daddies can go to work so children don’t starve at home, shall we? Providing more money in this New Dealish package for meaningful infrastructure repair would start bridge and road projects that actually create jobs. I don't know how giving more funds to the arts is going to do that!

As for office furniture, new grass and Amtrak, give me a break! Who rides Amtrak anymore? They've been in a downward economic spiral for several years now. I love trains, but we all travel in our cars over dilapidated bridges and rutted roads every day. New grass for the National Mall? I say, if it's in the city limits of Washington, it is not the federal government's business. It is seriously time to have the District of Columbia act like a city government and keep their issues separate from the federal ones. Let them sod and mow their own yards!

Then, of course, there is the usual suspect- $400 million for global warming research. Many brilliant scientists and anyone with a logical mind and an understanding of history now understand that climate is cyclical-there have been many times over thousands of years when the earth was warmer- a hundred years ago is one example(Remember, the 70s when we were warned the earth was approaching another “ice age?)

Does the government really need to go 725 million into debt to provide digital converter boxes to Americans or to fund programs to help smokers kick their habits? That answer is no. It is not the government’s job to guarantee that you or I have television. And, if you want to quit smoking, quit…use a little willpower…who needs educational programs for that? We all know it’s bad for you.

Then, there are the totally ridiculous projects slated to receive their share of this ‘stimulating’ money- constructing a discus golf course in Austin, Tx., buying 8 motorcycles for the Shreveport, La. Police department, a dog park in Chula Vista, California and, drum roll, $2 million big ones for more neon signs for Las Vegas. The Las Vegas government has decided that the city is just not glitzy enough for those tourists expecting a certain amount of bright lights. Unbelievable!!! Millions of Americans have been laid off, families are struggling to pay for houses, food and gas; yet, the President and Congress are worried about one more light bulb over Caesar’s Palace!

We don’t need frivolous excuses for the government to spend more of our money. And it is our money, people. How else do you think they will be able to afford this giant Christmas list?

What about all the tainted food and toys from China and American production plants that have dominated the news for far too long?  We need to be worrying about things like better health inspections of imported products and of our own plants. The Food and Drug Administration could use a bit of an overhaul, don’t ya think? Wouldn’t money be better spent to provide for our children’s safety?

I hope Yogi and Boo Boo will be happy with their billion dollar picnic basket--our children and their children will be paying for it for many years to come. Mr. Obama has cleverly disguised his party’s wish list as money spent to stimulate the economy. I have one question: Did he really think a pig in a picnic basket could pass for a Republican ‘elephant‘? Maybe there’s a reason why the Democrats’ mascot is a ‘donkey’!
