Obama's Love Affair With The Mirror

Barack Obama had no problem traveling to Berlin while on the presidential campaign trail in 2008. He performed the smooze routine like a trained seal. He thought he could make Germany and other European countries believe if he were elected, he could tear down the walls between good and evil  simply by concentrating his toothy smile on their bricks like Sissy Spacek did with her stare in Carrie!

The President had no time available in his 'busy' schedule, though, for attending the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. I can think of two reasons, which are actually different sides of the same coin: The celebration in Berlin to commemorate the tearing down of the most recognizable symbol of communism on the European continent for thirty years wasn't about him; the desire to placate our enemies-terrorists and communist regimes, is all about him and his unbelieveably naive idea that he can be remembered as the man who single-handedly brought about world peace. This is the attitude that I pick up on each and every time I hear him speak-which is the few seconds it takes to change channels. He is a poster boy for narcissism. He should be in a college psych textbook.

Obama was willing to travel to Copenhagen because he wanted to win the Olympics for his hometown and for the financial benefit of his cronies. He has already penciled in the date of the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony  in December. Those two events provide a platform for him to show off himself. Traveling to Berlin for the Fall of the Wall anniversary would have meant speaking about the importance of ideals which he really doesn't espouse. More importantly, he might have had to invoke the name of Reagan, to honor the life and words of someone other than Barack Obama, which would have probably caused him to disintegrate!

Everything-everything the man does and says creates a picture of someone looking at his mirrored reflection out of the corner of his eye as he pretends to be involved in the moment. Until I heard similiar criticisms the next morning, I thought my reaction to his initial speech after the Ft. Hood massacre was out of the ordinary. I shuddered with embarrassment for him, as he spent the better part of four minutes congratulating his team for putting together a great Indian Affairs Conference. The most unbelievable moment was his "shout out" to a tribal chief. I felt as though someone had just delivered a standup comedy routine at a funeral!

He constantly wants to make light of situations that require somberness. He likes to kid around at press conferences as though the business of Congress is not something we need to be talking about with him. And if I were his youngest daughter, I wouldn't have found it funny that he announced my failing grade to a national audience! But, hey, anything or anyone(including your own family members) to make your speech interesting!

I am forever left with the feeling that the man is the consummate entertainer-he looks for ways to fill up air time during Rose Garden briefs, press conferences and even national addresses with words that center around what he is doing, what his family is doing, how well he is doing and what great things he has in mind to do. Not much narcissism there, eh?

A man so focused on his own face is not concerned with the dire consequences caused by the liberal hounds he has unleashed in the halls of the White House and the Capitol. They are necessary tools to carry out the promises he made to that misdirected electorate who placed his self-absorbed keester in the White House. He's sitting back now, smiling and waving like a beauty queen in a convertible through this presidency, actually believing his own press about his power to remake the world into one big happy family; there is simply not enough time in his busy day of looking at his own reflection for him to make decisions about troop increases in Afghanistan or to actually talk to those pesky tea party protestors about what's on their minds. Meanwhile, the worker bees in charge of implementing that agenda for are swarming around the very freedoms that make America what it is supposed to be.
